Converse celebrates pioneering athlete Julius “Dr. J” Erving who has made a major impact on basketball both on and off the court. It is inspired by his amazing career and the iconic moments that altered the course of sports history. For Erving, that moment was unifying the ABA and NBA ushering in a new era of offense with his foul line dunk during the ‘76 ABA All-Star Dunk Contest, and his “Rock the Baby” dunk during the ’83 NBA Finals.
In celebration of the 35th year-anniversary of Black History Month, Nike, Converse and Jordan Brand came together on the hardwood to unveil special designed shoes that various top NBA athletes wore on court on Monday, January 17, 2011.
In addition, Converse is releasing a new limited-edition Black History Month 2011 Star Player EV inspired by the one of the most iconic and pioneering athletes – Julius “Dr. J” Erving.
